Support information for women going through breast cancer treatment.
14 Apr
To anyone recently diagnosed with breast cancer I am so sorry you have to go through this. Having had breast cancer myself I know how scary it is. You are not alone though and you will get through this.
The Live and Give Foundation, Inc. better known as Don’t be a Chump! Check for a Lump! would like to help you get through this difficult period in your life. We will soon have packets filled with support information to mail out to new breast cancer patients. Until they are ready I would like to share some of that information with you that you may find helpful.
During your treatment I strongly advise you to accept help. Accept the dinners, the cleaning, the car pool . . . Any help that is offered. There is a wonderful site called Lotsa Helping Hands that allows you to set up a calendar for help. Friends, family, coworkers can sign up on this site. It is extremely useful. Their site is:
https://www.lotsahelpinghands.com/
If you are a single mother going through breast cancer a wonderful site is Singleton Moms. They offer emotional, financial and domestic support while undergoing treatment. Their website is www.singletonmoms.org. Telephone: 480-818-5285. Email: contact@singletonmoms.org
Another idea if you are in need of financial help is to set up a paypal account. You can send out emails and post on facebook that you are going through breast cancer and need financial assistance. Even if you have insurance breast cancer treatment is expensive.
Our Wig program will be in place mid-May. We will be offering free wigs to first time breast cancer patients having to undergo chemotherapy. Again, I remember how difficult this was and how grateful I was to be able to pick out a wig that suited me without the price to worry about. We want to offer that comfort to all women going through breast cancer for the first time. Please contact us by email at hollyrose@checkforalump.com if you are in need of assistance with a wig.
Another awesome support system is the Wellness Community. They offer free monthly programs for all cancer patients, survivors and their family. They have a wide range of programs from writing workshops, to yoga, to cooking, to family groups, etc. Their website is www.twccaz.org and the phone number is 602-712-1006.
If you are in need of a breast surgeon I highly recommend The Breast Care Center of the Southwest. Dr. Zannis was my doctor and he is amazing. I was treated with care and kindness, not to mention his highly talented surgical skills. They are located at 2525 W. Greenway Rd., www.breastcarecentersw.com and their phone number is 602-942-8000.
If you would like a second opinion on your diagnosis and treatment contact The Arizona Institute for Breast Health at http://www.aibh.org/. They offer women diagnosed with breast cancer a second opinion completely free of charge.

If you are located in Arizona Bosom Buddies of Arizona offers a hotline service. They will link you with a trained breast cancer survivor to answer your questions. Their number is 602-231-6648. You can also send them an email to: info@bosombuddies-az-org
Our thoughts and prayers go out to each and every one of you. And remember that breast cancer is not a death sentence. You will survive!
Live and Give,
Holly Rose

I am Holly Rose, the founder of Don't be a Chump! Check for a Lump! I discovered I had breast cancer at the age of 39 after being reminded on Facebook to perform a self-breast exam. I was very fortunate in finding my cancer in the early stages and was able to save my breasts and, more importantly, my life.
